Welcome Back BBQ Sept 23, 2012

Hi all,

Welcome back to the new school year!  We will be having the ICME Welcome Back Barbecue at the Studio 6 bbq pit on Sunday September 23rd from 1-3pm.  Come meet new students and catch up with returning students, staff and faculty.  We will have free food (vegetarian included!) and lawn games.

Arastradero Hike on Thursday October 6

Join us for a shortish hike through Arastradero Park near campus

on Thursday Oct 6. Since the park does not open before 8am,

we'll not leave as early as usual. Meet up at the trail-head at 8am.

We will wander through the park for around 90 mins.

Some hills, but not high and not steep.

If you want to mountain bike instead, bring the bike along!

There are some great trails for biking, as well as running.

Wear long pants because of possible poison oak close to the trail.

Tuesday, Sept 27: "Mamms Gulch Trial" 630am to 10am

Our next morning hike is on Tuesday September 27.

Meet at 6:30am at Peets or 7am at the trailhead.

We'll hike up Hamms Gulch Trail and run down 

Spring Ridge. This is all part of Windy Hill.

Expect to be back before 10am.

The trailhead parking area is just in front of the Alpine Rd

Can be cold at the top of Windy Hill in foggy weather

Saturday Sept 17: "Mission Peak hike", 7am - noon, potluck dinner 6:30-9pm

Meet at Peets in Town and Country at 7am. We'll drive to Fremont after a coffee and start
the hike at Mission Peak at 7:45am.Estimated hike time is 3.5-4 hours.
It is always crowded at Mission Peak, but we'll take the back trails up to the top and
won't meet as many people there. Great views from approx 2700 ft across the Bay and
East towards Livermore. This hike is best done in the morning or evening in summer time
as the slopes get very hot midday. Bring plenty of water and an extra layer in case it
is windy at the top.
Pretty descent hike up some pretty decently steep slopes, but a lot of fun.

In the evening, there's a potluck dinner at Margot's from 6:30pm. Bring whatever you
like. If we end up with only desserts, that's fine too."

Tuesday Sept 6: "Early morning hike, 6:30 - 9:30"

"Meet at Peets in Town and Country at 6:30am or at the Windy Hill
parking lot off Portola Rd (http://www.openspace.org/preserves/pr_windy_hill.asp) at 7:00am for a hike up to the Windy Hill summit. Back on campus by 9:30-10. Rain or shine, foggy or sunny. "
